4 Things to Avoid Wearing Over 60

Fashion is one of those things that has no rules, and can be explored and stretched and tested out in all sorts of different ways. It should be enjoyed regardless of how old you are. However, the truth is that as we get older our bodies change, and this can significantly impact our clothing choices.

The last thing you want is to choose something that could make you look bigger, shorter, or worse— older. To help you stay stylish and looking your best even in your retirement years, here are some things you should avoid wearing over 60.

Too Trendy

Following trends may seem like the most logical way to look, well—trendy! However, the truth is that over a certain age, dressing too trendy can actually make you look like you’re trying too hard.

Not to mention, overly trendy items often are suited for younger bodies, and may be totally unflattering on an older person. Remember, fads come and go, and paying a lot of money for a look that could potentially go out of style in a matter of weeks is a waste of time and money.

Instead, focus on classic and timeless outfits that you can use in a wide variety of looks. Versatility is key to looking forever chic and elegant.

Too Loose

Sometimes in an effort to hide things about our body that we might not be necessarily proud of, we wear overly loose clothing. Unfortunately, this can have the opposite effect, and ultimately make us look frumpy and bigger than we actually are.

Instead of wearing loose clothing, opt for just right. You want it to slightly hug your body shape, and flatter your curves and all the right places. Well fitted clothing will enhance your silhouette, rather than detracting from it.

Too Black

Even though black is a classic and in many cases can add sophistication and even a slimming effect, too much black can make you look older. It can make you look pale, and even tired. If you do wear back, try to add a few pops of color to lighten the overall mood of your look. Experiment with a few different shades and textures, and have fun with color rather than hiding from it. Remember, color represents youth and energy. The darker and dry you look, the older you’ll not only look but feel.

Outdated Looks

Listen, we know you might love your favorite pair of corduroy overalls from the 1970s, however, they’re not going to do you any favors in today’s day and age. Outdated looks are outdated for a reason. Holding on to your beloved old-fashioned pieces can make you look much older, and dangerously out of style. If you absolutely must wear a vintage piece of clothing, try and pair it with something modern to add balance to your outfit.
